Timeline
- 1893: Born Mukunda Lal Ghosh in Gorakhpur, India
- 1910: Meets and becomes a disciple of Swami Sri Yukteswar, Puri, India
- 1915: Initiated into Swami Order, and takes the name Yogananda (bliss through divine union or yoga)
- 1917: Starts a "how-to-live" school for boys in Ranchi, India
- 1920: Travels to America at the invitation of the international congress of religious leaders in Boston and continues to teach and speak in lecture halls accross america.
- 1925: Establishes international headquarters on Mt Washington is Los Angeles, CA.
- 1935-1936: Returns to India to visit Sri Yukteswar, family, and many saints. Sri Yukteswar bestows on him the title of "Paramahansa".
- 1946: Publishes Autobiography of a Yogi
- 1950: Holds first international Convocation, dedicates the new SRF Lake Shrine
- 1952: Mahasamadhi: Paramahansa Yogananda leaves his body after concluding a speach at banquet honouring the Indian ambassador to the United States.
